Grubb lab receives Open Research Award

07/01/25

Congratulations to the Grubb lab on their award of the IoPPN’s Open Research Award in recognition of their outstanding commitment to advancing open science practices in neuroscience.

The Grubb Lab has been a leader in promoting transparency and accessibility in research since its inception. Open science is a core value underpinning every aspect of their work, from ensuring all manuscripts are shared as preprints on bioRxiv, to publishing exclusively in open-access journals. The lab also ensures that datasets, analysis scripts, and any tools developed during research projects are made publicly available, fostering transparency and reusability in neuroscience and reducing duplication.

The Grubb Lab has further made significant contributions to shaping a positive research culture. Beyond Professor Grubb’s leadership, lab members actively participate in initiatives such as public preprint reviews, advocacy blogs, and webinars on research culture. This collective effort has earned the lab accolades, including the 2022 Open Science Award from the British Neuroscience Association.

As part of this year’s Open Research Award, Matt Grubb, head of the lab, will deliver a talk at the upcoming IOPPN Research Festival, where he will share the lab’s open science journey and evolution. The Grubb Lab will also be hosting a data-sharing workshop in February 2025 at the IoPPN. This event, open to all, will focus on the importance of data sharing, providing practical protocols while reflecting about its limitations and strategies to overcome them.

Congratulations to all in the Grubb Lab for this well-deserved award. Their extensive efforts and contributions demonstrate several ways in which we can all advance open science.
