The Centre for Developmental Neurobiology is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Emily Jones as a new group leader with a joint appointment between the CDN and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Professor Jones will also join the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders and comes to King’s from Birkbeck’s Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development.
Professor Jones’ research interests focus on understanding the cognitive and neural mechanisms that drive variability in the developmental trajectories of young children. Her lab employs a multimodal approach, using behavioural, electrophysiological, and psychophysiological techniques to investigate the development of skills such as memory and attention, early on in development, with a specialisation in early development in autism. She already has close links to King’s through several large collaborative projects and brings a wealth of expertise and techniques, complementing the CDN’s research programmes in human brain development.
Emily joins the King’s Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People, a joint endeavour of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London, supported by the Maudsley Charity. The Partnership’s mission is to enable clinicians and researchers to work more closely together, finding new ways to predict, prevent, and treat mental health disorders in children and young people. The proximal working will maximise the translation of research and evidence into improved services not only locally, but nationally, and globally.
“I’m immensely excited to be taking on this role at King’s. It is a fantastic opportunity to further our understanding of the earliest stages of brain development in relation neurodevelopmental conditions.” Professor Emily Jones
